Visa Vet to Co-Lead Monitise
June 5, 2014
London-based mobile payment processor Monitise yesterday named former Visa executive Elizabeth Buse to the unusual position of co-CEO. Buse, who served in several high-profile roles at Visa, is very familiar with Monitise as Visa has licensed the company’s mobile payments technology and, with six percent ownership, is Monitise’s fourth-largest shareholder. Buse also served on Monitise’s board of directors from 2010 to 2012. She reportedly was a candidate for the CEO spot at Visa in 2012 that was filled by Charles Scharf.
The company unveiled ambitious plans in March to grow their user base nearly tenfold to 200 million by 2018. Buse will lead that effort alongside Monitise founder and current CEO Alastair Lukies. Buse is expected to run the company’s day-to-day operations and oversee technology, sales and marketing. Lukies will focus on corporate development and key relationships with partners and major shareholders.
