Square Goes Upscale with Burberry

Dec. 13, 2012

Mobile card acceptance media darling Square appears to be on the verge of signing a second significant processing agreement. After unveiling a partnership this summer to process credit-card transactions at all U.S. Starbucks locations, San Francisco-based Square has followed up by launching a payments pilot with luxury apparel and accessory brand Burberry, according to published reports.

Burberry CTO John Douglas informally announced the agreement last week when he tweeted that the company had installed Square readers at one of its San Francisco Brit retail locations. And, despite the lack of a formal announcement (though one is expected soon), Square has added Burberry to its company directory.

Published reports have indicated Burberry is running the Square trial in at least one additional location: its Westfield store, also in San Francisco.
