PayPal Sees 36% Bump in Dec. Charitable Giving via Online and Mobile

If PayPal’s 2013 charitable-giving numbers are any indication, nonprofits are increasingly looking to online and mobile channels to augment donations. Charitable giving through PayPal grew by more than a third in 2013 to nearly $634 million. Of that total, $142 million was processed in the month of December (a 36 percent increase from Dec. 2012) and almost $46 million during the final three days of the year (numbers that mirror charitable giving in general).
“At PayPal, we are committed to empowering worthy causes to receive more through technology-based solutions,” said Clam Lorenz, PayPal’s director of nonprofit engagement, in a post on PayPal’s corporate blog. “We believe that online and mobile giving is on the rise, in demand, and has the power to significantly increase fundraising for nonprofits in the near future.”
