  • Microsoft Chooses MACH for Direct Carrier Billing - Feb. 28, 2012
    MACH, a Luxembourg-based provider of direct carrier billing technology, has extended an agreement with Microsoft under which MACH will integrate with Microsoft’s new Commerce Platform so carriers can connect to the Microsoft Marketplace through its Direct Billing Gateway.
  • New PayPal Facility to Add 1,000 Jobs in Ireland - Feb. 28, 2012
    PayPal recently revealed on its corporate blog that it will add a third operations facility in Ireland that will create 1,000 new jobs in Dundalk, a town of 30,000 located 50 miles north of Dublin, by 2015. John McCabe, senior vice president of global operations for PayPal, says the Dundalk site will complement existing PayPal facilities in Dublin and Blanchardstown to support “phenomenal growth” the company is experiencing in the region.
  • BOKU Provides Direct Carrier Billing for WorldPay Merchants - Feb. 28, 2012
    BOKU, Inc., a San Francisco-based direct carrier biller, said it has been chosen by e-commerce processor WorldPay as its global mobile payments partner. Under the agreement, WorldPay’s merchants can enable their customers to charge purchases made on their mobile device to their mobile operator bill.
  • Elevon, DataCash Launch Payment Gateway in Europe - Feb. 28, 2012
    Elavon, an Atlanta-based acquirer/processor owned by U.S. Bancorp, has partnered with DataCash, a MasterCard company, to launch Elavon’s Global E-commerce Gateway solution in Europe. The solution expands payment options, reduces fraud, and ultimately improves sales for businesses accepting e-commerce payments.
  • SRPc Letter Expresses Misgivings about EMV - Feb. 23, 2012
    The Secure Remote Payment Council (SRPc) this week offered an open letter to the payments industry discussing the EMV payment standard and why alternatives to its centralized, proprietary approach should be considered. With a self-imposed mandate to “facilitate a pilot of e-commerce and mobile technologies that meet or exceed the security standards for PIN-based, card-present payments,” the council feels a platform with open standards would be advantageous.

    Retail Decisions (ReD), a provider of fraud prevention and payment services, has added several people to its senior management team as part of a strategy to drive growth in Europe/Middle East/Asia, North America, Latin America and Asia Pacific through new strategic partnerships.
  • In-App Payments API Lets Developers Steer Gamers Based on Device - Feb. 21, 2012
    San Francisco-based appMobi has developed a JavaScript API solution that enables HTML5-based game developers to solve several deployment and monetization problems. The company said its playMobi beta enables developers to address user authentication, in-game payments, social player engagement, scoring and leaderboard management in a single API.
  • Wirecard, Lekkerland Enable Cash Payments for Online Purchases - Feb. 21, 2012
    Wirecard Group, a German electronic payment and risk management provider, has expanded an existing partnership with gas station supplier Lekkerland AG. The companies, along with payments provider EZV Gesellschaft für Zahlungssysteme mbH, are marketing BarPay, an alternative payment method that lets consumers make purchases online and pay for them using cash at retail locations.
  • Irish Mobile Payments Firm Expands to U.S., Canada - Feb. 21, 2012
    boxPAY, an Irish mobile payments provider and direct carrier biller for Web merchants, game developers, and other e-businesses, has expanded to North America, opening a U.S. headquarters in San Francisco. The company said the office will manage U.S. and Canadian-based e-commerce merchant clients.
  • Payment Aggregator Startup Adds PayPal, Dwolla - Feb. 16, 2012
    InspirePay, a payments aggregator based in Boulder, Colo., has added PayPal and Dwolla to its platform that enables e-commerce merchants to offer multiple payment options to their customers. “Since the launch of InspirePay’s flexible platform, people and merchants are no longer being forced into the technical or financial constraints of any one payment set. InspirePay built a platform that recognizes this fact,” said Ben Milne, founder of Dwolla, which recently closed on a $5 million financing round.
  • TMG Offers First Data Anti-Fraud Tool to Clients - Feb. 16, 2012
    The Members Group, a Des Moines, Iowa credit union service organization has launched a fraud prevention tool for its clients. TMG said it has implemented First Data’s DefenseEdge, which it said can help detect fraudulent card transactions quicker than other solutions.
  • Aeroflot Chooses BPC for Gateway Services - Feb. 16, 2012
    Global e-payments processor BPC Banking Technologies said it has implemented a payment gateway for Russian airline Aeroflot. The company said the gateway has consolidated all sales channels for Aeroflot ticket sales into a single integrated interface. Prior to the implementation of the payment gateway, BPC said Aeroflot was managing a costly and disparate range of interfaces across a wide range of ticket sales channels.
  • First Data Veteran Named to NorseCorp Board - Feb. 16, 2012
    NorseCorp, a St.Louis-based provider of Internet security intelligence services for e-commerce has named O.B. Rawls, IV of First Data Corporation to its board of directors. Rawls, who currently leads First Data’s merchant acquiring business in North America, is a 30-year veteran of the banking and electronic payments industry.
  • Facebook Partners with Direct Carrier Biller - Feb. 13, 2012
    Bango, a U.K.-based mobile billing firm said it has signed an agreement to "provide payment services to Facebook.” The company released a terse statement that revealed only that the companies would partner and that it “believes it is too early in the relationship to accurately forecast the level of business which it may generate."
  • Mozido Launches Mobile Wallet for Underbanked - Feb. 13, 2012
    Mozido, a Dallas-based mobile payments firm, has launched a mobile wallet platform it hopes will bring financial inclusion to un- and underbanked consumers around the world. The company said it has expanded a partnership with MoneyGram to enable the money transmitter’s clients to provide remittance services to customers through Mozido’s Genius Wallet application.
  • Direct Carrier Biller Launches Automated Setup Wizard for Merchants - Feb. 13, 2012
    Text2Pay, a New York City provider of direct carrier billing technology, has launched an automated system for digital content merchants it says will enable their customers to charge purchases to their mobile phone bill. With no human interaction, it is a seamless process to register and activate your brand, according to Mark Reiken, CEO of Text2Pay.
  • mopay Provides Direct Carrier Billing to Brazilian Payment Network - Feb. 9, 2012
    Direct carrier billing technology provider mopay, has entered a strategic partnership with paymentez, an alternative payments network based in Brazil. mopay said it will add its direct carrier billing method for single and recurring online payments to paymentez’ existing payment methods, including an in-app solution for the Android platform.
  • MasterCard Partners with Web Intelligence Provider for Online Fraud Prevention - Feb. 9, 2012
    MasterCard Worldwide has partnered with Silver Tail Systems to help combat online fraud by combining the Menlo Park, Calif.-based Web intelligence provider’s technology with MasterCard’s payment experience to offer merchants the opportunity to be better equipped to spot malware or robotic (bot) activity originating from personal computers or smart phones attacking their online payments systems.
  • Dwolla Nets $5 Million in Latest Funding Round - Feb. 9, 2012
    Dwolla, the cash-based payment network based in Des Moines, Iowa, has secured a $5 million round of funding led by Union Square Ventures with additional participation from Village Ventures, Thrive Capital and others. According to published reports, Dwolla CEO Ben Milne acknowledged the company could have leveraged intense investor interest into a larger funding round, but intentionally kept it at a level he felt more comfortable with.
  • U.K. Credit-Card Issuers Challenged by PayPal for Online Supremacy - Feb. 9, 2012
    Credit-card issuers in the U.K. must stave off challenges from alternative payment providers—notably PayPal—over the next few years as they compete to be the dominant payment method for online purchases, according to new research from Auriemma Consulting Group (ACG). The report said credit cards are currently used for 49 percent of online purchases, but alternative payment methods now account for more than 20 percent of online purchases.
  • FDIC Warns Banks to Tighten Monitoring of Payment Processing Clients - Feb. 6, 2012
    Last week, the FDIC released revised guidance for their member financial institutions advising heightened monitoring and due diligence when dealing with payment processor clients, especially those that process transactions for merchants in the CNP space. The agency said it has seen an increase in the number of relationships between financial institutions and payment processors in which the payment processor, who is a deposit customer of the financial institution, uses its relationship to process payments for third-party merchant clients.
  • CyberSource Survey: E-commerce Fraud Rate Drops, Dollar Losses Up - Feb. 2, 2012
    Anti-fraud technology provider CyberSource said the fraud rate by order (the percentage of orders that turned out to be fraudulent) dropped from 0.9 percent in 2010 to 0.6 percent in 2011—the lowest in the 13-year history of its annual survey of e-commerce fraud. Visa-owned CyberSource said merchants are making gains against fraud but the cost of fighting it continues to grow.
  • BlueCava Launches EU ePrivacy Directive-Compliant Solution - Feb. 2, 2012
    BlueCava, an Irvine, Calif.-based provider of device identification technology, recently launched the latest version of its device identification platform. The company said the new release provides an immediate solution for companies doing business in the European Union affected by the EU's ePrivacy Directive.
