Realex Payments, a Dublin-based online payment gateway provider, announced on Friday it is expanding its staff to accommodate a surge in business resulting from “a significant deal” it signed with a U.K. financial institution. While details of the agreement have not been disclosed, it involves Realex Payments providing an outsourced arrangement to the client for its retailers’ online payment processing. As a result of the deal, Realex Payments said it will effectively double its client base from 5,000 to 10,000 retailers over the next 12 months. “Over the last few years , we have invested heavily in expanding our operations throughout Europe—our U.K. business is now boarding almost 100 retailers a month, we opened in Paris earlier this year and are now live processing into local French banks. In addition we have established initial operations in Amsterdam and we are live with an Italian bank” said Colm Lyon, CEO and founder of Realex Payments. “Our overseas customers now account for over 50 percent of our transaction volume.” The company said it now processes more than €12 billion per year for 5,000 retailers in 25 countries.
