IntraNext Licenses Western Union Patent for Secure Call-Center Payments
Jan. 14, 2016
IntraNext, a Colorado-based company whose solution enables call centers to accept secure payments over the phone, has struck an agreement to license patented technology from Western Union that conceals payment card information entered using a telephone keypad. IntraNext is one of several companies that have been using the technology to enable PCI-compliant transactions over the phone while also reducing the threat of agent fraud (when a call-center agent steals and uses or sells credit card information to commit fraud).
Western Union has had a patent pending on the technology since 2003 and IntraNext has been in discussions with the company for several years, always with the intent of entering a licensing agreement if and when a patent was granted. Western Union received its patent late in 2013 and has been negotiating with IntraNext on an agreement since. According to Patrick Brown, president of IntraNext, the resolution of this issue enables the company to juice up its production and marketing efforts.
“We’ve been holding off on a lot of our heavy-duty product launch until we had it ironed out as to where we stood with the controller of that kind of technology,” Patrick Brown, president of IntraNext, told CardNotPresent.com. “We see a lot of good opportunities coming our way.”
