Ingenico Throws Hat into Ring for Worldpay
Aug. 31, 2015
After news surfaced last week that German payments processor Wirecard has bid more than $9 billion for Worldpay, Ingenico has reportedly also offered to acquire the London-based e-commerce processor and acquirer. According to Reuters, the French POS terminal manufacturer has matched Wirecard’s $9.2 billion bid.
For Ingenico, adding Worldpay would continue to bolster its presence in the card-not-present market that the company established a year ago when it bought Dutch e-commerce processor GlobalCollect. At the time, Ingenico CEO Philippe Lazare called GlobalCollect a “great opportunity to maintain our time-to-market advantage to rapidly reinforce Ingenico Group’s position as a global leader in seamless payment.”
