ExxonMobil and Others Join MCX

Dec. 12, 2013

The Merchant Customer Exchange (MCX), the merchant-led mobile payments initiative, this week added ExxonMobil to the expanding roster of major merchants that will offer mobile payments through the service. In addition to one of the largest oil producers in the world, MCX also said convenience-store operator Kum & Go, supermarket chain Giant Eagle and pharmacy Rite Aid also joined the initiative.

“We are seeing tremendous interest and momentum with new merchants, large and small, coming on board to work together to offer a mobile-commerce solution that will best serve the needs of customers and merchants alike,” said MCX CEO Dekkers Davidson. “Both nationally and locally, MCX merchants have unparalleled knowledge of the shopping experience, making MCX uniquely qualified to build and improve upon the current mobile payment options available in the marketplace.”

The most recent additions to the MCX initiative bring the total number of merchants committed to implementing the MCX mobile wallet to more than 50, representing 100,000 merchant locations.
