Starbucks Rolls Out Mobile Order & Pay Nationally
Sept. 24, 2015
To date, Starbucks still has the most successful in-store mobile payment deployment ever. So when the company turns its attention to its CNP capability, it bears watching. On Tuesday, the Seattle-based coffee giant rolled out its Mobile Order & Pay service nationwide for iOS and Android devices. Through the existing Starbucks mobile app, customers can place an order, see on a map where the store is located and pay using a Starbucks card. The card can be funded using a credit or debit card, PayPal or Apple Pay.
“Bringing Mobile Order & Pay to our customers is about meeting their needs of convenience and customization at any time of the day” said Adam Brotman, Starbucks’ chief digital officer. “The fact that it also represents the fastest technology application rollout we have ever done is indicative of the strength of our digital ecosystem, how well it has been received by both our customers and store partners and the impact we think it can have on the future of retail.”
The coffee chain tested its custom-built service in Portland, Ore. last year after exploring a partnership with Square. The company said it will conduct similar pilots in the U.K. and Canada next month.
