Nov. 25, 2015
Square this week launched a new card reader that enables mobile acceptance of EMV-compliant chip cards and mobile proximity payments like Apple Pay. The company, one of the pioneers of mobile credit card acceptance, is testing the new readers with 100 small businesses across the U.S. including Honey Butter Fried Chicken in Chicago, Philz Coffee in San Francisco, Sump Coffee in St. Louis and Cafe Grumpy in New York City.
“We’ve always wanted to offer our customers the option to pay with Apple Pay and we’re thrilled that Square has helped us make this a reality,” said Joshua Kulp, executive chef of Honey Butter Fried Chicken in Chicago.
Other cities where local sellers are testing the new reader include: Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Denver, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, Miami, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Sacramento, Santa Cruz, Seattle, Tampa, and Washington, D.C.
