January 19, 2017Square, which opened its first Australian office in Melbourne nearly two years ago and launched its mobile card reader there 10 months ago, this week has made it the first country outside North America with access to its payment APIs that enable omnichannel capability for small and midsize businesses. A pioneer in the mobile card acceptance space, the launch of its Build with Square suite of APIs lets merchants process payments on their websites and accept contactless mobile payments at the POS. It also allows for integration with third-party apps a merchant is already comfortable with. With the announcement, Square claims to be the first payment company in Australia enabling in-store, online and mobile payments. The company also has announced integrations with e-commerce platforms BigCommerce, WooCommerce and Wix so Australian merchants can get a Website up and running quickly. “We know we’re being used by a different segment in the market, so we’re not just out there to offer e-commerce processing functionality, we’re offering a holistic end-to-end solution that applies to different businesses,” said Ben Pfisterer, Australian country manager for Square. “Build with Square vastly increases the capability of the Square platform and enables deeper partnerships with third-party solutions.
