Samsung Pay launched in the U.K. this week. On Tuesday, the South Korean handset manufacturer made its mobile payment solution available to British consumers after several delays. Samsung Pay enables contactless payments using a Samsung mobile device at the point of sale, even through traditional magstripe swipe POS terminals.
The company plans to support online and in-app payments via Samsung Pay globally, but currently only users in South Korea are able to pay online. In the U.S., Samsung has partnered with Mastercard to enable merchants that accept Masterpass to offer Samsung Pay as an online and in-app payment method. When the companies made the announcement in October, they said the service would be available to U.S. consumers in early 2017.
