For our readers in the travel industry, Spanish online travel site Destinia and antifraud technology provider Sift Science spotted some travel-related fraud trends this year and put together a report detailing some of the more interesting that give some insight into the type of fraud and location of fraudsters that have been targeting them most.
Indonesia and the surrounding countries were ground zero for airline routes that attract the most fraudsters. For several routes, Destinia saw fraud rates in the high 90s. But the winner was between Kuala Namu airport in Medan, Sumatra and Don Mueang airport in Bangkok. One hundred percent of the airline tickets purchased on Destinia between those two cities was fraudulent.
The report also identified the departure and arrival countries that saw the highest fraud rates along with information on hotel reservations and prevalent travel fraud schemes.
