Fraud is always top of mind at the annual CNP Expo, but three letters dominated the conversation at this year’s gathering that concluded on Thursday in Orlando, Fla. In conversations both on the record and in the hallways, when merchants were describing their biggest fraud and payments challenges, account takeover nearly always made the list. While ATO and its cousins—account creation and synthetic fraud—are familiar terms, the buzz surrounding them reached unprecedented levels this year, suggesting the problem has gotten worse.
For those in the CardNotPresent.com community who were unable to attend the CNP Expo, ATO will be one of the issues discussed in an upcoming CardNotPresent.com webinar that will review the most important takeaways. On Thursday, June 22, Editor-in-Chief D.J. Murphy and Editor-at-Large Karisse Hendrick will sit down for a special session detailing what they learned from the merchants, service providers and speakers at the event. In addition to ATOs, they will examine other trends that emerged as top concerns for CNP merchants including the various causes and effects of unnecessary declines and how to elevate the stature of fraud teams within companies.
