E-commerce merchants in the thick of the holiday shopping season are experiencing significantly more traffic than they did last year, according to Verizon’s 2017 Holiday Retail Index. On the final weekend heading into the holiday, traffic at the top 25 U.S. e-commerce Websites surged on Friday, Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 16 (16 and 17 percent, respectively) from the same weekend a year ago. Free Shipping Friday and continuing promotions drove consumers to buy online this past weekend, according to Michele Dupré, group vice president of Retail, Hospitality & Distribution for Verizon Enterprise Solutions.
“A perfect storm of last minute shopping, final standard shipping deadlines and great deals continued to drive strong digital commerce activity over the weekend,” Dupré said. “The race is now on and the next hurdle for retailers will be sustaining customer engagement while successfully managing inventory and logistics during the Christmas rush. Retailers need to pull out all of the stops ahead of Super Saturday for a strong finish.”
