BlueSnap, First Data Bring Simple Cross-Border Payments to E-Commerce Merchants

Waltham, Mass.-based gateway provider BlueSnap and processing giant First Data have joined forces on a new initiative the companies said will make selling cross-border easier for First Data’s roster of e-commerce merchants. First Data President Guy Chiarello told CardNotPresent.com why the pairing makes sense.
“We have a lot of the infrastructure, a great set of clientele, a multinational business,” Chiarello said. “We look for people who can help us aggregate those payments, really provide additional service to clients and make the cross-border aspects of e-commerce payments work seamlessly and that’s the foundation of why we want to do business with BlueSnap and why they can help us.”
Chiarello also noted that BlueSnap’s recent $50 million capital raise gave it the financial power First Data wants in a partner.
What BlueSnap’s CEO Ralph Dangelmaier characterizes as a new product will pair the company’s merchant-facing international gateway that enables optimized payment routing, one-click checkout and subscription billing with First Data’s global acquiring relationships and a client base that needs a simple way to sell internationally.
“We have a large customer base in the small and midsize business domain and this is a great way for us to help them grow their businesses,” Chiarello said. “A lot of these businesses have a chance to grow with a global audience, but the complexity of doing that can be daunting. This partnership allows cross-border e-commerce to be simple and seamless for them and gives them every opportunity to expand their footprint.”
