Worldpay Launches in Canada with Peoples Trust, Rakuten Kobo E-commerce processor and acquirer Worldpay has partnered with a Canadian bank to enable merchants to accept local payments in Canada. The move was announced in tandem with word that Worldpay will begin processing payments for Toronto-based e-book retailer Rakuten Kobo. Worldpay has provided antifraud services to Rakuten Kobo since 2013 and acts as the company’s processor in the U.S., Europe and Japan. But, the banking deal with Peoples Trust Company enables the e-book retailer—and other Canadian companies—at last to accept online payments as local transactions in its own country.

“We could not be more excited about extending our relationship with Rakuten Kobo to Canada. It’s a privilege to work with such an innovative company on its home turf,” said Ron Kalifa, vice chairman and executive director for Worldpay. “We pride ourselves on being a leading provider of payment and risk services for business everywhere, and look forward to bringing that expertise to a unique and innovative Canadian market.”
