Way2Ride Takes Mobile Payments for Taxis on Ride down Jersey Turnpike VeriFone Systems on Tuesday said its Way2Ride mobile payment app for taxis has been implemented by the city of Philadelphia. The San Jose, Calif.-based company said Way2Ride, which won the Customer Choice award for Best Alternative Payment Solution at the recent CNP Awards in Orlando, Fla. , now enables commuters in the City of Brotherly Love to tap and pay for rides in 1,400 of the city’s 1,600 cabs. After a successful debut in New York, the mobile app is ready for Philly, according to Amos Tamam, senior vice president of Taxi Systems for VeriFone.

“The launch of Way2ride in nearly every cab operating in the city of Philadelphia is a result of the considerable success it has experienced following the app’s initial launch in New York City,” said Tamam. “The convenience it provides, including the ability to retrieve lost property with the tap of a button, will benefit passengers and drivers alike in a city as large as Philadelphia, which thrives on speed.”
