Walmart recently launched a system that enables consumers to shop and order online, but pay using cash. The “Pay with Cash” offering is available at in the U.S. and is aimed at consumers who do not have bank accounts or credit cards or who are uncomfortable using payment cards online.

Consumers who wish to pay for online purchases with cash choose the “cash” option in the online shopping cart and indicate their delivery option. The system generates an email receipt that is sent to the customer and the item is reserved. The shopper then has 48 hours to print out the receipt, take it to a local Walmart and pay at a register. When the clerk keys in the cash payment, the item is released and delivered to the customer.

“Many of our customers shop paycheck to paycheck and are looking for more ways to purchase items online but don’t have the means to a credit, debit or prepaid card,” said Joel Anderson, president and CEO of “Our new ‘Pay with Cash’ makes it easier for our customers to shop the way they want, where they have access to a broader product selection at coupled with the convenience of payment and shipping as they want.”
