U.S. Bank Launches Bill Pay Service Using Smartphone Camera

Dec. 31, 2012

U.S. Bank has partnered with mobile imaging software company Mitek to offer a bill pay solution leveraging a smartphone’s camera. Using the San Diego company’s technology, U.S. Bank customers can set up bill payments by snapping a photo of the bill with their phone or tablet. The Minneapolis-based financial institution said the new feature eliminates the need to manually enter biller and payment information and enables payments directly from their mobile device.

“Mobile banking and mobile payments continue to be a priority for U.S. Bank as we take advantage of new technology and deliver added convenience to customers via their mobile devices,” said Niti Badarinath, senior vice president and head of mobile banking at U.S. Bank. “Our investment in mobile innovation will remain strong as we enter into 2013.”

Mobile Photo Bill Pay will be available to U.S. Bank customers in early 2013.
