Study: 41% of CNP Merchants Won’t Pass on Debit Savings
Sept. 6, 2011
A Direct Response Forum survey recently found 41 percent of CNP merchants do not intend to pass on savings from lower debit card costs to customers. The survey, taken by attendees at the DRF’s annual conference in San Diego said 56 percent are unsure what steps they will take with the savings reaped from the Durbin Amendment. Results of the study even suggested a significant number of CNP merchants don’t even know what share of their sales revenue comes from debit transactions. Twenty-eight percent said debit accounts for up to 40 percent of their business, 20 percent said debit transactions account for 20 percent of sales and 26 percent said they didn’t know.
