Stripe Enables Email Receipts

June 3, 2013

Stripe, the San Francisco-based online payments provider, late last week began enabling merchants automatically to send email receipts directly to their customers from the Stripe platform. According to a post on the company’s corporate blog, the new feature is a response to frequent requests from its merchant base. Stripe’s Michaël Villar wrote in the blog post that, while the company’s webhooks feature was good for notifying merchants about things like account creation and customer cancellation, it was not ideal for more common events like sending receipts.

“Once enabled, we’ll send an email receipt every time you charge a customer that has an email address configured, for both recurring subscriptions and single-time purchases,” Villars said. “The emails will be sent for payments in both the test and live environments.”

Merchants can upload a custom logo and business information and the platform will automatically choose the optimal color for the email header, according to the post.
