Sri Lanka Ports Now Able to Accept Online Payments

Oct. 17, 2011

On Nov. 1, Sri Lanka Customs said it will implement an electronic payments system that eventually will enable the Sri Lanka Ports Authority to accept credit card payments online. The government agency said it has partnered with the Bank of Ceylon and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to implement UNCTAD’s ASYCUDAWorld solution. “Already the software is in place and soon we will be doing some trial runs with some clients,” according to Priyath Wickama, chairman of the Sri Lanka Port Authority. “Hopefully by January we will be up and running and nobody should come to the port any more to make payments.”
