Square Launches in Canada
Oct. 25, 2012
Headline-making mobile payments startup Square is available in Canada starting today—its first foray outside the U.S. The San Francisco-based company, which enables small merchants to accept card payments via a smartphone or tablet, made the announcement in English and French, mirroring the languages in which its app will be available in the country.
Square is charging the same 2.75 percent per swiped transaction and 3.5 percent plus 15 cents per card-not-present transaction in Canada as it does in the U.S., according to the company’s Canadian Website. Also like in the U.S., Square will provide the plug-in card readers for free to any merchant that signs up at square.ca .
