Report from NRF: Vantiv, Microsoft Partner on Mobile POS for Enterprises
Jan. 16, 2014
Cincinnati-based processor Vantiv made a splash in New York this week by announcing a major partnership with Microsoft. The agreement is the result of an effort to bring effective mobile card acceptance to larger companies. Vantiv has been in market for more than a year with a well-regarded mobile POS product for small businesses, according to the company’s Elizabeth Rector, senior vice president of e-commerce and mobile. And, while mobile POS began as a solution for small merchants that found it difficult to establish the merchant account necessary for credit-card acceptance, Rector said Vantiv’s larger customers needed an in-store mobile solution as well. “
Our larger customers told us they have a lot of applications for mobile POS,” Rector told CardNotPresent.com during the NRF event. “They may not be store-wide, but for a particular use like the deli in a super market or food pickup at a restaurant. They don’t want an entire system, but they want certain components. We asked Microsoft how you would create a mobile POS product that’s really easy to implement but also connects to everything they need to connect to in the back office.”
In the end, Microsoft provided the technology to make that happen and Vantiv will provide payment processing, support and distribution.
