Report: Capital One Pulls Support from Isis

Sept. 19, 2013

The prospects of NFC-based mobile wallets took another hit yesterday when published reports indicated that Capital One will pull out of Isis, before the carrier-backed mobile wallet rolls out nationally. Capital One—along with American Express, BarclayCard and Chase—was one of the original issuers whose cards were supported in the hyped and delayed pilots that took place in Austin, Texas and Salt Lake City. Isis has announced that the pilots have ended and the service will roll out before the end of the year , but it will do so without Capital One cardholders.

According to NFC World, Capital One has notified cardholders who have been participating in the pilots that “our pilot test with Isis will be coming to an end soon. We have gained valuable insights from our customers who were among the first to pay with the Isis Mobile Wallet. We continue to engage with Isis on the future of mobile payments.”
