May 16, 2011
According to a recent report, BillingTree, an on-demand payment processor based in Phoenix, was found to be the largest biller-direct vendor. In an April report titled Biller Direct Technology: Vendor Overview, Boston-based Aite Group said it estimated that nearly 26 percent of consumers will make their payments at billers’ websites by 2013, a percentage that is directly proportional to the expected decline in check-by-mail payments. It found that BillingTree grew 20 percent in the last year to grow to over 1,500 customers. In terms of acquisition velocity—number of clients divided by the years in business—BillingTree was the highest of the companies surveyed. “While we view BillingTree as an offering extremely well suited for small and midsize billers with 1,000 to 50,000 bills a month,” said Kunal Pandya, senior analyst at Aite Group. “BillingTree showed the shortest implementation time of 4 to 6 weeks for billers sized over one million bills per month and for 100,000 to one million bills per month.” Vendors that participated in the study include Alacriti, Aliaswire, BillingTree, FIS, Fiserv, Online Resources, and Tier Technologies.
