Report: Australian E-Commerce Grew 15.7% in 2015
June 28, 2016
B2C e-commerce growth in Australia reached nearly 16 percent in 2015, but is expected to slow to around 12 percent in 2016, according to a new report from The Ecommerce Foundation. The group, an industry-led trade association based in Amsterdam, said Australians spent a per capita average of nearly US$1,800 in 2015. While it is small, Australia represents an attractive market for online retailers.
“Australian consumers are brand-aware and technology-savvy,” said Corinne Franks, general manager of the National Online Retailers Association in Australia, one of the main contributors to the report. “There is a strong adoption of technology/devices by consumers in our market which are catalysts in supporting the digital touchpoints of the customer journey. A lower Australian dollar and higher household wealth due to increase in home values have been driving consistent growth in discretionary retail spending by consumers.”
