June 10, 2010
According to published reports, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is reviewing six bids for its RBS WorldPay payment-processing arm. Sources close to the process said the Edinburgh-based bank holding company will soon pick two or three suitors for a final round of bidding, according to a Reuters report. The six bidding groups are: Clayton, Dubilier & Rice; American Express Co. and Permira; Atos Origin SA, CVC Capital Partners and Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe; Advent International and Bain Capital; Canada’s Moneris Solutions; and TPG, sources told Reuters. Previous suitor Warburg Pincus is no longer bidding for the processor. European regulators forced the divestiture of the financial institution’s Global Merchant Services unit, which includes the WorldPay business, after the bank took benefitted from billions of pounds of government support. Reuters sad the business could garner £2.5 to £3 billion pounds ($3.7 to $4.4 billion).
