Payvia Acquires Mogreet to Add Mobile Messaging to Payments
May 20, 2013
Los Angeles-based direct carrier billing technology provider payvia today revealed it has acquired mobile marketing company Mogreet. The company will be the first to combine direct-carrier billed mobile payments and consumer engagement on the same platform, according to Darcy Wedd, CEO of payvia. It’s a combination consumers have been clamoring for, Wedd told CardNotPresent.com.
“Up to now, there has been pretty strong demand for our direct carrier billing payment solution. But, over the past six-to-nine months all our clients are telling us they need an easier way of linking mobile payment transactions to their mobile marketing campaigns,” Wedd said. “Our platform has been able to deliver messages, but it’s more a wholesale model. What this [acquisition] allows our clients to do is transact with the customer and, from an ongoing engagement standpoint, communicate with the customer by sending coupons, discounts, videos of product demos, whatever. It creates a nice end-to-end solution that no one else in the market has.”
payvia looked at a few acquisition candidates, Wedd said, but Mogreet’s emphasis on delivering mobile messaging using video and rich media and its stable of retailer clients including ABC, Bloomingdales, Cox Media Group, Emmis Communications, Fox Television, Gamefly, Gymboree and Paramount, was too juicy to ignore.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed, but Wedd said the entire Mogreet team will be retained along with Mogreet’s office in the Venice section of Los Angeles.
