Payleven Expands Mobile EMV Card Acceptance Across Europe

Feb. 14, 2013

Payleven, a German company offering mobile Chip and PIN card acceptance, last week said its service is live throughout Europe. The company’s offering, which launched in several countries last October , is one of only a few services that enable merchants to accept EMV-compliant cards and is officially certified by Visa and MasterCard.

“Since Visa requires PIN authorization at the mobile point of sale in Europe, we are now in the position to allow our merchants to accept the leading card brand in the world—Visa,” said Co-Founder and CMO Konstantin Wolff. “With Chip and PIN we can offer our merchants the highest security standard in card payments while being fully mobile, more flexible and convenient than traditional card terminals.”

Payleven said it will begin shipping the card readers on Feb. 18 and they will cost merchants EUR49 ($65.30). The company charges a processing fee of 2.75 percent per transaction.
