Optimal Payments Investigating Breach
Nov. 2, 2015
U.K.-based online and mobile payments provider Optimal Payments acknowledged in a Reuters report on Thursday it is investigating compromises at two of its units that may have occurred in 2012 or earlier. Sources told the news agency that names and email addresses of Optimal customers are available for purchase on the “dark web”—networks that use the public Internet but that require specific software or authorization to access.
No information is available regarding how many records may have been compromised, but Optimal said in a statement that it has informed the Information Commissioner and the Financial Conduct Authority about the matter.
Optimal Payments acquired digital-wallet provider Skrill this spring for $1.2 billion.
