  • ThreatMetrix Enters the Cloud - March 31, 2011
    ThreatMetrix, a California-based anti-fraud software provider, said it has released a cloud-based service. The company said the ThreatMetrix Cloud-Based Fraud Prevention Platform, which incorporates cookieless device identification and enhanced mobile authentication, makes it easy for banks, merchants, online businesses, payment gateways and payment providers to detect and screen for fraud.
  • Fifth Third, CardinalCommerce Partner to Offer Alternative Online Payment Options - March 31, 2011
    Fifth Third Processing Solutions recently introduced an e-commerce platform that allows online merchants to securely transact with authenticated payments and alternative payment brands. Fifth Third has partnered with CardinalCommerce Corporation to offer customers payment options such as PayPal, Checkout by Amazon and Google Checkout within Fifth Third Processing Solutions’ eCommerce Plus technology.
  • Alibaba.com Reports 46% Increase in Q4 Profit - March 25, 2011
    Chinese online alternative payment company Alibaba.com Limited posted a 46 percent increase in Q4 profits last year compared to 2009, reporting net income for the period of ¥410.4 million ($62.5 million). Total revenue in the fourth quarter rose 37.6 percent to ¥1.52 billion ($231.6 million).
  • Merchant Warehouse Adds Web and Mobile Functionality to Platform - March 25, 2011
    Merchant Warehouse, a Boston-based provider of merchant accounts and credit card processing solutions, recently launched mobile and web versions of its MerchantWARE TransPort processing platform. The company said TransPort.Mobile and TransPort.Web offer the same versatility as the original TransPort with enhanced functionality and enhanced security features. TransPort enables POS developers to remove the card processing function entirely from their software through a “transaction portal” and tokenization. The company said this is especially important for mobile payment solutions since the PCI Council has officially opted to not certify mobile applications in the near future.
  • Smartphone, Tablet Users Access Wi-Fi Network via Mopay - March 25, 2011
    mopay, an online payment solutions provider for merchants, recently launched a mobile solution with Fon, the world’s largest WiFi network. The companies said the agreement makes it easy for smartphone or tablet users who have limited or no Internet access via 3G or 4G to purchase an access pass to its WiFi network and have it billed to their mobile account.
  • EMC's Anti-Hacking Division Hacked - March 21, 2011
    The anti-hacking unit of the world's largest manufacturer of data storage computers has, itself, been hacked, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing by the company last Thursday. RSA, the security division of Hopkinton, Mass.-based EMC Corp., said in the filing that “a recent attack on RSA’s systems has resulted in certain information being extracted from RSA’s systems that relates to RSA’s SecurID two-factor authentication products.” The RSA two-factor authentication device and technology generates an additional password that only the holder of the device would know. But if a criminal can figure out how those additional passwords are generated, the system is at risk.
  • National Grid Turns to Fiserv for E-Billing - March 21, 2011
    Fiserv, Inc., a Brookfield, Wis.-based provider of financial services technology solutions to banks, recently announced that National Grid, which delivers gas and electricity to customers in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Rhode Island, will use Fiserv’s e-Bill Distribution for electronic billing.
  • Vindicia Partners with GlobalCollect for E-Commerce Payments - March 21, 2011
    Vindicia, a billing software provider for e-commerce merchants, has entered into a partnership with payments processor GlobalCollect to give its customers access to a portfolio of local, international, and alternative payment methods. The companies said the deal offers Vindicia’s merchants in the digital goods space the opportunity to leverage GlobalCollect’s billing and subscription services along with its WebCollect payment platform.
  • Swipe Fee Regulation under Congressional Assault - March 17, 2011
    The Durbin Amendment to the Dodd-Frank financial reform legislation came under intensified attack this week as legislation was introduced in both chambers of Congress that would put the brakes on swipe fee regulation for debit cards. Bills in the House and the Senate propose to delay implementation of the Durbin Amendment to further study is possible effects.
  • Report: Internet Crime Still on the Rise - March 17, 2011
    This week, the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), a partnership between the FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), released its 2010 Annual Report about fraudulent activity on the Internet. The report found that online crime complaints increased substantially last year with 303,809 complaints of Internet crime, the second-highest total in IC3's 10-year history.
  • CNP Merchants Not Expected to Sink Potential Durbin Savings into Payment System Upgrades - March 17, 2011
    A survey of leading card-not-present merchants found 47 percent felt they would need to update recurring payment processes due to the expected decrease in debit card approvals that would result if the Federal Reserve’s proposed rule to implement the Durbin Amendment is passed in its current form. The study, by CNP industry trade group Direct Response Forum (DRF), indicated only 8 percent felt that fees saved from debit card interchange would be diverted to pay for the needed payment systems development.
  • eWise Calls For Advisory Group of Secure Vault Payments Stakeholders - March 17, 2011
    eWise, a Denver-based online payment solutions provider, called for the formation of a Secure Vault Payments Marketing Advisory Council. The group would work to share insights about and maximize awareness of Secure Vault Payments, the alternative online payment option that leverages the ACH system and consumers’ online banking systems. “Secure Vault Payments continues to grow in its size and penetration,” said Jan Estep, president and CEO of NACHA, the organization that developed and maintains the ACH network.
  • Terapeak Develops Analytic Tool for PayPal Merchants - March 15, 2011
    Terapeak, a Canadian e-commerce analytics company, unveiled an analytics tool for merchants that accept PayPal at the online payment company’s recent Innovate 2010 conference. On PayPal’s blog, Terapeak executive Greg Lewis explained how the service grew out of a similar product it had built for PayPayl’s parent eBay.
  • Ayden Adds Local Payment Methods in Global Markets to E-Commerce Platform - March 15, 2011
    Adyen, an Internet payment solutions provider, now accepts local payment methods across four continents. The company said it has expanded its global reach by adding new payment methods to its platform in Canada (Interac Online), Latin America (Hipercard, Aura and cash-based payment methods Boleto Bancario, PagoFacil and Servipag), Russia (Webmoney and Yandex) and China (Alipay and Tenpay).
  • Cypriot Payment Gateway Chooses inteliWare Anti-Fraud Software - March 15, 2011
    JCC Payment Systems (JCC), the primary national processor of card transactions in Cyprus, has chosen inteli-scape's inteliWare anti-fraud solution for its e-commerce payments gateway. The company said its JCC Gateway has been growing, but "with this growth came a risk exposure that the business needed to manage." inteliWare enables JCC to safely acquire and attract new e-commerce merchants and offer new products and services from a single platform.
  • MasterCard Launches Anti-Fraud Tools for Issuers - March 11, 2011
    MasterCard Worldwide introduced its Expert Monitoring Compromised Account recently, which will provide its issuers turnkey fraud detection and prevention capabilities. MasterCard developed the Expert Monitoring Compromised Account Service to provide issuing banks with a comprehensive, real-time view of Account Data Compromise fraud risk during authorization.
  • Moneris Chooses ThreatMetrix for Anti-Fraud Service - March 11, 2011
    Moneris Solutions has selected ThreatMetrix, a California-based provider of fraud prevention solutions, to help prevent online fraud and abuse. "We will integrate the ThreatMetrix Fraud Network solution into our e-commerce APIs so our customers can quickly adopt them, further adding value to the Moneris-merchant relationship," said Terry Langdon, director of Web-based solutions for Moneris Solutions.
  • BillingTree Shows Significant Growth in 2010 - March 7, 2011
    As it enters its 8th year, on-demand payment processor BillingTree, Inc. said it grew 33 percent during 2010. In January and February 2011, BillingTree closed two consecutive record months and predicted 20 percent growth for 2011. The company said much of its growth last year came in two key markets, Healthcare and Utilities.
  • Trustwave Garners Security Award - March 7, 2011
    Trustwave, a London-based provider of information security and compliance solutions, has received the Data Security Award from the European Card Acquiring Forum (ECAF) for TrustKeeper, Trustwave's security and compliance web portal.
  • Fiserv Acquires M-Com for Mobile Banking and Payments - March 3, 2011
    Fiserv, Inc. has acquired Mobile Commerce Ltd. (M-Com), a mobile banking and payments provider, to enhance the Brookfield. Wis.-based financial services technology provider’s existing mobile channel capabilities. The two companies have been partners since 2008, together developing and delivering Fiserv’s mobile banking solution. As a result of the acquisition, Fiserv said it will have the ability to integrate M-Com mobile banking and payment technology into current product offerings, as well as leverage that technology for new solutions.
  • Heartland Partners with Acculynk for PIN Debit Authentication - March 3, 2011
    Payments processor Heartland Payment Systems said it has partnered with Atlanta neighbor Acculynk to provide the software provider’s Internet PIN debit solution to Heartland’s e-commerce merchants. The companies said PaySecure is the first software-only service that enables a consumer to use his/her debit card and bank-issued PIN to pay for online purchases.
  • Vindicia Launches E-Commerce Store Front Solution - March 3, 2011
    Vindicia, a provider of billing software for e-commerce merchants, recently launched the Vindicia CashBox StoreFront. The company said CashBox StoreFront supports a wide range of business models from subscriptions to microtransactions with virtual currency support to one-time offers.
