PayPal to Unveil Micropayments Product at Annual Developers Conference

Oct. 14, 2010

PayPal, which announced in August that it is planning a product to enable consumers to make online micropayments without using payment cards (CNP Report Aug. 23, 2010), confirmed in published reports last week that it will formally launch the product at its annual developer’s conference, which begins on Oct. 26 in San Francisco. The company said it will also announce at that time its partners, mostly online game publishers, that will help implement the “digital goods optimized product.” In August, PayPal CEO Scott Thompson said the product is designed to enable merchants to accept many small transactions within an online experience, which would be cost prohibitive if the user was paying with a credit or debit card.
