PayPal Expands Coinstar Experiment

March 4, 2013

PayPal recently announced it is expanding a program tested in Dallas last year that enables shoppers to fund their PayPal accounts with cash and coin or withdraw cash from their accounts at select Coinstar kiosks. Users also can send funds to another PayPal account using the kiosks. Sometime this month, consumers in Texas, Northern California and Ohio will have access to the service.

“During the initial test of the new service in Dallas we saw quick adoption and interest from consumers,” said Dan Schatt, head of financial innovations for PayPal. “Test results revealed that 40 percent of users who used the PayPal feature went back to use PayPal on a Coinstar kiosk an average of two times a month.”
