SignatureLink Turns Tech Entirely to Payments

June 14, 2012

As part of an effort to refocus his company in the payments space, Greg Wooten, CEO of electronic signature technology provider SignatureLink, says preventative measures rather than reactive ones are the surest way to mitigate fraud damage to your company. During a recent interview with CardNotPresent.com, Wooten said focusing on payments rather than splitting attention between payments and the document space has resulted in SignatureLink retooling its technology entirely for payments. The company’s core product—wet-signature-equivalent technology—can preempt fraudsters, according to Wooten.

“Humans generally avoid situations in which they will incriminate themselves, and physically signing one’s name as a means of certification during an illegal activity is certainly self-incriminating,” he says. “We’re finding that legitimate customers are comfortable making purchases from sites with SignatureLink SecureBuy, while those who attempt to engage in e-commerce fraud are often deterred by the virtual electronic signature pad.”

When the signature deterrent isn’t enough to stop the fraud, Wooten says the rest of SignatureLink’s product suite, which includes a chargeback management system along with the electronic signature, can give merchants forensic proof to fight the chargeback.
