BAMS Offers PIN Debit Acceptance for Online Merchants

Bank of America Merchant Services (BAMS) recently partnered with Acculynk to enable its online merchant clients to accept PIN debit payments. Customers of merchants offering PIN debit acceptance with Acculynk’s PaySecure service enter the PIN from their debit card on a virtual keypad at checkout.

The Atlanta-based acquirer expects online retailers to embrace PIN debit, according to Derrick Carpenter, vice president and group product manager for BAMS. Because PIN debit cards are less susceptible to fraud, payments industry experts agree.

“The e-commerce channel is going to be growing significantly in the near term each year,” said Ralph Bianco, COO of Adaptive Payments, during a panel at the recent CNP Expo in Orlando. “So I’m surprised there isn’t more thought about how to slow down the pace of fraud. You have something in our midst called PIN. It’s something consumers know and embrace. It’s entirely intuitive to extend that user experience from the physical POS, where you have to use your PIN for debit, to the card-not-present channel.”
