American Express Partners with TNS on Payment Gateway

April 5, 2012

American Express has partnered with Reston, Va.-based Transaction Network Services (TNS) to provide an online payment gateway for e-commerce merchants. The American Express Payment Gateway is based on TNS’s technology and includes anti-fraud capability provided by American Express-owned technology provider Accertify. New York City-based American Express says the gateway enables global e-commerce payment and processing from a single source.

The partnership adds TNS’s existing gateway technology and global acquiring relationships to American Express’ notable strengths, according to William Tsang, a spokesperson for American Express.

“With our global presence, merchant relationships and best-in-class fraud solutions from Accertify, we complement TNS's unique assets,” Tsang tells CardNotPresent.com. When asked if American Express would integrate its Serve platform into the gateway as a payment option, Tsang says only that the company is “currently evaluating all alternative payment types and will continue to evolve our capabilities.”

American Express indicated in a press release that the gateway initially is available in the U.S., the U.K., Australia and Mexico. Tsang says the company expects to roll out the technology in other countries “later in the year.”
