MCX Adds Southwest and Chili’s to Mobile Initiative
May 13, 2013
Merchant Customer Exchange (MCX), the merchant-led mobile payments initiative, has added four major retailers to its ranks. Southwest Airlines, Brinker International (parent company of national restaurant chains Chili’s and Maggiano’s Little Italy), Pacific Convenience & Fuels and RaceTrac join nearly 30 others representing more than $1 trillion in annual sales and 80,000 physical locations.
“Southwest supports efforts to bring a competitive mobile-payments network to the market that also protects consumer and merchant data,” said Chris Monroe, treasurer for Southwest Airlines. “We’re proud to join the growing list of outstanding merchants backing MCX.”
MCX announced less than a month ago its mobile wallet will leverage barcode technology at the POS and store payment details in the cloud rather than in a secure element in the phone.
