MasterPass Launches in Canada
April 15, 2013
After making a big splash in February with the announcement of MasterPass, its enhanced digital wallet service, MasterCard followed up late last week by launching the service in Canada. Several merchants in Canada already have enabled MasterPass checkout on their Websites including Porter Airlines, WagJag, Jaunt.ca and Grocery Gateway. MasterCard said it plans to make MasterPass available as a checkout option at the e-commerce sites of 800 Canadian merchants by the end of this year and 2,800 by the end of 2014.
“Canadians are early adopters when it comes to digital payments and embracing new technologies; that’s why Canada is the first market in North America where we’re launching MasterPass,” said Jason Davies, vice president of e-commerce at. “With e-commerce growing by double digits, more and more Canadians want a secure, seamless and simple payment experience. MasterPass delivers this to consumers no matter if they are shopping on their laptops, tablets or mobile phones.”
MasterCard said it expects to roll the service out in the U.S. this summer.
