MasterPass Continues European Rollout
Dec. 23, 2013
MasterPass, the digital payment service from MasterCard that lets consumers enter payment information for one-touch payments at participating merchants, continued its rollout across Europe with additional deployments in Sweden and Italy.
Swedish issuers Nordea, SEB and Swedbank and Italian financial institutions BNL, Banca Generali, BPM, Findomestic and Intesa Sanpaolo will offer the service to their cardholders. On the merchant side, PSP Paynova will be making the “Pay with MasterPass” button available to its online retailers in Sweden. In Italy, the company said it is working with several acquirers including CartaSi, Deusche Bank and Setefi to get their merchant customers up and running with MasterPass.
“With the digital wallet from MasterCard based on their digital platform MasterPass, we will eventually be able to offer a fast, safe and global solution for shopping online, with a smartphone,” said Nils Hilbard, head of strategy at SEB Kort, one of the Swedish issuers offering MasterPass. “A solution that in the future will also work in the physical store.”
MasterPass will be available in both countries in the first quarter of 2014. In addition to recent announcements about MasterPass expansion in Belgium, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain and the U.K., MasterCard also has introduced the service in Brazil and Australia.
