iZettle Launches in U.K.

iZettle, Europe’s answer to Square, yesterday officially rolled out in the U.K. after a similar launch last week in Germany. Stockholm, Sweden-based iZettle enables small and midsize merchants to accept card payments using a mobile device and the iZettle app on Android and iOS devices. In the U.K. the company has partnered with EE, which will distribute the card readers that plug into a mobile phone’s audio jack in its nearly 300 stores across the country.
“Whether you are a cabbie, florist, tradesperson or a courier, iZettle gives you the flexibility to operate in both cash and cards,” said Jacob de Geer, CEO and co-founder of iZettle. “The possibilities are endless because hundreds of thousands of small business can now take plastic. We are very excited about our full commercial launch in the UK and the positive results of our Beta test with 4,000 users over the past six months.”
Square announced international expansion plans last month when it launched in Canada , its first operation outside the U.S.
