GoPago: The Rest of the Story
Dec. 23, 2013
After rumors, which surfaced last week regarding the sale of mobile payments provider GoPago to Amazon, were confirmed by GoPago’s CTO in an interview with an Italian newspaper, more details have emerged. Sources in published reports said Amazon’s purchase involved only GoPago’s technology and its engineering and product team. The company found another buyer for the rest of its business, including the POS business and current merchant relationships.
Double Beam, a Pasedena, Calif.-based provider of white-label mobile payments services, said the addition of GoPago will enable Double Beam to offer a turnkey mobile-payment platform that includes an integrated POS system.
“We are very excited about the synergies between Double Beam’s leading mobile commerce solutions and the mobile point-of-sale systems that GoPago brings to the table” says Ted Tekippe, CEO of DoubleBeam. “The complimentary capabilities of these technologies will bring a unique and holistic solution to the retail industry. It’s exactly what our customers have been asking us for.”
Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
