Global Payments Signs Referral Agreement with BitPay
Aug. 7, 2014
Global Payments, an Atlanta-based payments processor yesterday announced it has partnered with BitPay, a company that enables merchants to accept bitcoin and other digital currencies, on a referral agreement. Under the agreement, if a merchant, ISO or VAR that works with Global Payments is interested in accepting bitcoin on their site or enabling another customer to do so, Global Payments will refer the inquiry to BitPay. A Global Payments spokesperson would not comment on the level of interest it has received from its merchant clients regarding accepting bitcoin, but did tell CardNotPresent.com the company does not advocate one payment type over another and needs to be able to advise clients when new ones emerge.
"This is a dynamic market and we work very hard to make sure we stay on top of market developments and changes," said Amy Corn, senior vice president of corporate communications and marketing for Global Payments. "We’re a service business and we’re agnostic to payment type. We believe that by offering this we can meet the needs of cross-border merchants."
