Fortumo Powers Direct-Carrier Billing in Philippines

Fortumo, a San Francisco-based provider of direct-billing technology, partnered last week with the largest mobile operator in the Philippines. Fortumo’s technology will enable Smart Communications’ subscribers to pay for games through the MNO’s GameX game store on their mobile bill. Fortumo said its special payment flow for low-capability feature phones is important in the Philippines where more than 60 percent of mobile subscribers still do not have smartphones.
“The Philippines is a market which is very well suited for this kind of operator billing payment,” said Orlando B. Vea, chief wireless advisor for Smart. “Through the deal with Fortumo, our subscribers will enjoy the ease of paying for many global games and apps through their phones. This will also benefit further the game developer’s community. Fortumo is also working together with Smart to educate local app and game developers about opportunities to open their apps for the overseas markets.”
