Facebook Strengthens E-Commerce Play with Facebook Pages Overhaul

Facebook said it has updated Facebook Pages especially for businesses signaling a continued push into e-commerce. The social-networking giant has optimized Facebook Pages for mobile to give businesses more and better ways to interact with customers, including, potentially, enabling consumers to make purchases directly from a business’ page. Facebook said it has added a Shop section that will enable businesses to feature products and make purchases and a Services section in which professional services businesses can list their offerings at the top of their page.
According to published reports, Facebook has been testing the concept of enabling shoppers to buy items directly through Facebook Pages since July. Reportedly, businesses selling through Facebook Pages will use Shopify to process the transactions.
According to the company, 45 million businesses reach one billion consumers each month through Pages. In addition to the new Shop and Services features, Facebook said the redesign includes brighter and more prominent call-to-action buttons “encouraging people to book an appointment or browse an online shop.”
