Facebook Partners with Direct Carrier Biller

Feb. 13, 2012

Bango, a U.K.-based mobile billing firm said it has signed an agreement to “provide payment services to Facebook.” The company released a terse statement that revealed only that the companies would partner and that it “believes it is too early in the relationship to accurately forecast the level of business which it may generate.” Speculation surrounding the deal has centered on Facebook possibly leveraging the mobile payments company to establish a competitor to Apple’s App Store. Bango already has a deal with Research In Motion that enables BlackBerry users to pay for apps on their phone bills. A similar agreement with Facebook is seen as a strong possibility. Bango shares surged 40 percent in the days following the announcement.
