Facebook Acquires TheFind, Delves Further into E-Commerce
March 16, 2015
Facebook continued to strengthen its position in e-commerce on Friday when it announced it had acquired TheFind, a Mountain View, Calif.-based search platform that connected users with products—typically apparel—they could then purchase from a wide array of retailers. Last month, Facebook launched a feature called product ads that tries to connect users with products from companies they would be most interested in buying from. According to reports, TheFind may be able to refine those ads even further down to the individual product level.
In its blog post announcing the acquisition, TheFind said the search engine would be taken offline soon. The company also said “key members of our team are joining [Facebook],” leaving the status of the rest of TheFind’s employees unclear. What is clear is that the monetization of Facebook’s platform through e-commerce options continues.
