Nov. 1, 2012

EMC Corporation, a data storage and IT security firm based in Hopkinton, Mass., this week announced it has agreed to acquire anti-fraud software provider Silver Tail Systems. Menlo Park, Calif.-based Silver Tail, which focuses on preventing fraud on card-not-present transactions for e-commerce merchants, will be integrated into EMC’s RSA security division to bolster RSA’s Identity Protection and Verification solutions used by financial institutions and other enterprises.

“We see tremendous opportunity with Silver Tail at the intersection of Big Data and security to leverage our collective expertise and technologies to move beyond the hype to execute on the vision of intelligence-driven security that is risk-based, agile and contextual,” said Art Coviello, RSA executive chairman and executive vice president of EMC Corporation. “Together RSA and Silver Tail can deliver compelling solutions that leverage session intelligence and Big Data analytics to help our customers gain better visibility and control risk.”

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the companies said they expect the transaction to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2012.
