Embarrassing Data Breach for Cyber Security Expert Exposes 1.5 Million Records CNP merchants may need to prepare for another onslaught of fraud attempts as 1.5 million data records stolen from Verizon Enterprise Solutions flood the black market and are available for sale. Interestingly, the company provides forensic investigations into data breaches at other companies and is a popular source of information used by many media outlets (including CardNotPresent.com) to detail the state of cyber security.

First reported on Thursday by security reporter Brian Krebs, the entire database containing contact information on around 1.5 million Verizon Enterprise customers was offered for sale on an underground forum for $100,000. Verizon confirmed the breach in an emailed statement to Krebs:

“Verizon recently discovered and remediated a security vulnerability on our enterprise client portal,” the company said. “Our investigation to date found an attacker obtained basic contact information on a number of our enterprise customers. No customer proprietary network information (CPNI) or other data was accessed or accessible.”
